Ok, so Day Two is in the books.
I wasn’t on deck this time around so I was mainly around to support the team members who were competing and to watch other matches to see what was interesting to see.
I’m not going to comment on the matches since I wasn’t the one fighting them but there were some interesting things that I saw.
First – a lot of matches seemed to wind up being a fight to see who could simply drag the other person to the ground first. Even at the black belt level there wasn’t a lot of judo style takedowns. Mainly just grabbing the other person and seeing who lost footing first.
Second – Lots of those takedowns wind up in some type of half/quarter guard, and a lot of matches wind up stalling out there with people unable to sweep from the bottom, or get out of the guard,
Third – There are a lot of really big guys that do this sport. My thought that I wasn’t going to be the biggest, or the strongest is definitely panning out so I’m going to have to make sure that my skills are on point moving forward.
Day three tomorrow. Time for a nap tonight.
(Oh, and no pics, since they are not of me, and the people in them haven’t given me permission to post them)
